According to recent news reports five United States Special Operations troops were wounded during combat in eastern Afghanistan. The combat casualties occurred in engagements with the Islamic State militants who have recently emerged in Afghanistan not far from the Pakistan border. They were injured by small arms fire and shrapnel in southern Nangarhar province. The troops were conducting a clearing operation along with Afghan security forces.
