SF Officer is New Commander of JTF-B

Col John Litchfield JTF-B Special Forces

Joint Task Force – Bravo (JTF-B) has a new commander – Colonel John Litchfield. A change of command ceremony took place at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras. Army Colonel Colonel Steven Barry passed the reigns to Litchfield on August 5, 2020.

Litchfield, a Special Forces officer, has served in the Army for 31 years. He has enlisted and commissioned service in both conventional and special operations units. Among his assignments are:

  • Rifle platoon leader in Korea
  • Rifle platoon leader with 75th Ranger Regiment
  • Detachment commander with 7th Special Forces Group
  • As a field grade officer served with a special mission unit and interagency assignment
  • Company commander and later battalion executive officer with the 1st Special Forces Group in Okinawa, Japan
  • Aide-de-camp for the CG of a U.S. task force in Afghanistan
  • Plans officer and strategist with NATO Special Operations Headquarters in Mons, Belgium
  • Director of the Special Operations Forces Fusion Cell in Afghanistan
  • Commander of Warrior Transition Battalion at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia

Joint Task Force Bravo is a forward-based expeditionary joint task force based at Soto Cano Air Base in Honduras. It is U.S. Southern Command’s lead forward element in the Central American region. The task force conducts a wide variety of missions and operations to enhance regional stability, security, and cooperation. It’s joint area of operations includes seven nations; although, when directed, it can operate beyond that operational area.
