The number of Mad Max vehicles employed by the Islamic State in Iraq is astounding. Every day suicide bombers are driving into Iraqi Security Force (ISF) and Peshmerga positions or convoys and exploding their Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) causing deaths, injuries, and material damage. Many of these vehicles have been outfitted with armor plating to protect the driver of the VBIED from weapons fire. This allows the suicide bomber to get close to his opponents before detonating his IED. Picture above is one such Mad Max vehicle captured by the Peshmerga – and it is now being used to train up Kurdish fighters to enable them to combat these VBIEDs. The photo was take from a CJTF-OIR press conference video – see “CJTF-OIR Spokesman briefs Pentagon reporters”, DVIDS, November 16, 2016.
