Iraq News Update 20160901 – How corruption caused the failure of Iraq, Kurdistan holding firm, Mosul offensive coming up, Belgium SOF and ISIS is losing ground.
Mosul to be Liberated Soon? The Iraqi military is gearing up to re-capture the second largest city in Iraq from the Islamic State. There will be a lot of different military forces involved in the fight. The Iraqi army will be the bulk of the forces attacking from the south, the Peshmerga (Kurds) will likely hit Mosul from the east and north. The Shia militias (advised and supported by Iran) will likely want to be involved – but it is unknown if they will be. The U.S. will certainly support the attack with air power and advisors on the ground. While the timeline is not yet publicized it may happen before the end of the year.
