Problems in Helmand. The Afghan government forces have their hands full in Helmand province. It appears that most of the province has been lost to the Taliban and the provincial capital – Lashkar Gar – is now threatened. Despite glowing reports by the Resolute Support HQs leadership the Afghans do not seem to be doing well on the battlefield. In fact, the Taliban now control more of Afghanistan than at any time since 2001. President Obama’s plan to withdraw 1,400 more troops by the end of the year certainly will not help the situation.
